Wide-ranging deal also covers co-production, financing via the Belgian tax shelter and diversification into next generation multiplexes.
EuropaCorp has signed an exclusive, three-year output deal with Brussels-based distributor Belga Films for Belgium and the Netherlands.
Under the accord, Belga Films will distribute all of EuropaCorp’s productions and co-productions in Belgium and the Netherlands.
EuropaCorp and Belga Films, one of the leading independent distributors in the Benelux region, have worked together for many years on titles ranging from Arthur And The Invisibles to most recently Taken 2 (pictured).
“Belga Films was an ideal and logical choice of partner for EuropaCorp, given the teams’ considerable know-how: our two companies know each other well and have learned how to work together,” said Marie-Laure Montironi, EuropaCorp group chief sales officer.
“After years of living together, we have finally decided to get married. This is a major milestone for EuropaCorp,” said EuropaCorp CEO Christophe Lambert.
The deal follows recent output deals with Fundamental Films in China and Relativity Media in the US and is part of Lambert’s strategic plan to ensure a pipeline of international finance and distribution for EuropaCorp’s films.
The EuropaCorp statement added that aside from the distribution of its films in Benelux, the deal also made provisions for co-production, financing via the current Belgian tax shelter and diversification into “the operation of new-generation multiplexes”.
Patrick Vandenbosch, Belga Films CEO said: “We are delighted to continue our already long partnership with Luc Besson and Christophe Lambert. We know that Europa Corp and Belga Films share the same vision of the industry future.”
