EXCLUSIVE: Jake Schreier’s popular Sundance premiere went on to screen at the EFM in Berlin and has proved to be a broadly appealing title for buyers.

Exclusive Media president of international sales and distribution Alex Walton has licensed rights to Robot & Frank to Europacorp for France, Senator for Germany, A Contracorriente Films for Spain, Paradiso for Benelux, Village Roadshow for Greece and Front Row for the Middle East.

Further deals have closed with Ascot Elite in Switzerland, United King in Israel, PT Amero in Indonesdia, Filmware in Taiwan, Tanweer in India and Pakistan, Star TV in Southeast Asian pay-TV and Jaguar for airlines and cruises.

Exclusive Media will shop remaining territories at Cannes this month when the film will screen in the market.

As previously announced, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) holds rights in Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, Russia as previously announced and Momentum Pictures has acquired UK and Ireland. SPWA and Samuel Goldwyn Films jointly acquired North American rights and will release in theatres on Aug 24.

In Robot & Frank, Frank Langella plays a retired jewel thief who gets a caretaker robot and strikes up a friendship with the machine that gives him a new lease of life.

“After closing a deal to represent the film’s remaining international rights following the film’s debut at Sundance, we felt it would connect with our international buyers and are thrilled that the film was received with as much commitment and passion as we had hoped,” Walton said. “The film is amazing and we could not be happier.”

Galt Niederhoffer, Sam Bisbee, Jackie Kelman Bisbee and Lance Acord produced Robot & Frank and Susan Sarandon, Liv Tyler, James Marsden, Peter Sarsgaard, Jeremy Strong and Jeremy Sisto round out the key cast.
