EXCLUSIVE: The Film Collaborative has launched a new distribution initiative for LGBT films, FestSelects.
Distributors on board are Peccadillo (UK), Outplay (France), Pro-Fun (Germany), ABC/Cinemien (Benelux).
They will aim to share resources and launch films simultaneously in multiple territories when possible to maximize awareness and limit piracy.
The group will champion gay and lesbian films that have risen to the top of the festival circuit.
The initiative will include DIY distribution and the distribution deals will always be between producer/rights holder and the distribution partner.
Digital distribution service Distrify will be a key partner.
The effort hopes to save on costs of sales and distribution of specialized films.
All of those distributors previously worked on hit Weekend [pictured]; more partners will be added soon.
The Film Collaborative, launched in early 2010, is a non-profit committed to distribution, education and facilitation of independent film. The group has worked with more than 150 films.
