Film Movement has taken North American rights to Beadie Finzi’s Portuguese language documentary Only When I Dance.
The film will get a limited theatrical run and premiere on VOD in the summer and follows a young boy and girl from the favelas of Rio who harbour dreams of becoming professional ballet dancers.
Film Movement president Adley Gartenstein and vice-president of acquisitions and distribution Rebeca Conget brokered the deal with Nikki Parrot from Tigerlily Films.
Meanwhile the company has promoted Meghan Wurtz to vice-president.
Wurtz joined in 2006 and previously held the position of vice-president of business development. She has played an integral role in launching cable and broadband channels for Film Movement’s content and in securing sponsors for the distribution network.
“We are thrilled to have her apply her expertise in this larger role,” Gartenstein said. “Her skills are essential in helping Film Movement to continue to acquire the very best in art house and independent film, and to create more opportunities for us to distribute its films to a wider North American audience.”
