Film Movement has acquired North American rights to Uruguay’s 2009 foreign language Oscar submission Bad Day To Go Fishing.
Alvaro Brechner’s Spanish-language tale centres on an alcoholic former strongman and his conniving manager who bite off more than they can chew when they arrange a prize fight in a small town.
The film will be available on DVD and VOD in February 2011. Film Movement president Adley Gartenstein negotiated the deal with Bavaria Film International’s Stefanie Zeitler.
“Bad Day To Go Fishing is yet another example of not just how fertile the Uruguayan film industry is, but also how varied,” Gartenstein said.
“Director Alvaro Brechner displays an original, personal style, bringing us a beautifully shot story that’s both touching and suspenseful, and quite different from the recent work of his compatriots.”
