Hit Sundance title Circumstance (handled in the EFM by Funny Balloons) is continuing to generate buyer buzz following its successful premiere in Park City.

The film, which won the US Dramatic Competition Audience Award in Sundance and was picked up for North America by Participant Media, has now been sold to Ad Vitam for France.

The deal was negotiated in Park City between Gergory Gajos from Ad Vitam and Peter Danner from Funny Balloons.

The film - a US/Iranian/Lebanese/French production is about a young Iranian girl being caught between her best friend and brother in a dangerous love triangle that may tear her wealthy family apart.

It is the debut feature from Sundance Lab alumnus Maryam Keshavarz and was produced by Keshavarz along with Karin Chien, Melissa M. Lee and Antonin Dedet.

Funny Balloons’ slate also includes Rotterdam Tiger competitor Alicia, Go Yonder (Vete Mas Lejos, Alicia) the first-feature film from Mexican director Elisa Miller, who won the Palme d’Or in 2007 for her short film Ver Llover.

The film was produced by Miller and Christian Valdelieve from Cine Pantera, with whom Funny Balloons worked previously on Lake Tahoe and Temporada De Patos. The film tells the story of a 19-year-old Mexican who heads to Patagonia to assuage her wanderlust and find herself.

Other Funny Balloon titles screening at the market are Post Mortem by Pablo Larrain (which was in official competition in Venice) and Les Petits Ruisseaux by Pascal Rabate.
