The Global Film Initiative (GFI) has expanded its distribution enterprise and launched a DVD arm dedicated to films from its Traveling Lens series.
The first of ten titles to be released on DVD in 2010 are Getting Home by Chinese director Zhang Yang and Song From The Southern Seas by Kazakh director Marat Sarulu.
The films will be available starting July 27 through Amazon, Netflix and other retailers. our to five DVD releases are planned per quarter on a bimonthly release cycle throughout 2010.
“Global Lens is the only film series of its kind and its popularity has increased exponentially in the last few years,” director of programs Santhosh Daniel said.
“So naturally it makes sense to pull distribution in-house instead of using a third-party, to expand release-channels and provide direct and more personalized service to our audience — the series is known from Alaska to Austin to New York and we’re responding to that awareness and demand.”
GFI also announced its Educational Affiliates programme that provides libraries a 33% discount off traditional educational pricing and access to new Global Lens titles before their commercial release.
The programme is available to all high school, college and university libraries in addition to all public and private libraries and includes lending and multi-use public performance rights.
