VOD distributor Gravitas Ventures has signed a deal with YouTube to make hundreds of independent films available through a branded channel on the online video site.
The GravitasVOD channel will launch with more than 100 films, including American Meth, narrated by Val Kilmer, Death of a Ghost Hunter, and the first seven volumes of the Graffiti Verite documentary series.
An estimated 500 films will be available by the end of the year, according to Gravitas, ranging from comedy to drama to horror. YouTube users will be able to view content on a rental or ad-sponsored basis through the YouTube media player.
“GravitasVOD enables our filmmakers to reach a potentially huge user base who is already accustomed to viewing streaming video online or through web-connected devices,” said Michael Murphy, senior vice president of Gravitas Ventures.
