Jim Harvey has resurfaced as president of Studio City Pictures and will be talking up his debut slate for Cannes, including the Vegas-set thriller Fortune to star Kim Basinger, Rose McGowan and Holly Hunter.
Harvey, a well-known face on the circuit, previously served at Affinity International and before that was an executive at such companies as Bold Films and Myriad Pictures.
Studio City Pictures is backed by Jack and Joe Nasser, with whom Harvey worked at Bold Films. The Nassers will be key suppliers for the company and Harvey will also handle third party product.
“Timing is important and everything came together at the right time to attend Cannes,” Harvey said. “Launching a new company at the biggest market of the year has been very exciting and the response from distributors is truly humbling.
“The transition has been very smooth and I’m fortunate to work with the great team that Jack already has in place. As the company grows I will definitely be looking for the right people in key roles to supplement the model.”
Fortune also stars Jason Patric and Catherine O’Hara and follows the overlapping lives of a smalltime hustler, feuding sisters and a woman on the run from the FBI.
The roster includes the comedy For A Good Time Call starring Lauren Anne Miller and Ari Graynor, about two former high school classmates who reunite a decade later and start up a sex hotline from their apartment.
Action title Recoil is in production and stars Steve Austin as a former police officer who turns vigilante to avenge the death of his family. Danny Trejo also stars and Vivendi holds domestic rights.
Tactical Force is completed and is another Steve Austin title on Vivendi’s domestic slate. Michael Jai White and Keith Jardine also star.
