Boardwalk Empire, Game Of Thrones and Treme to be available to own in UK via VOD for first time.
HBO series Boardwalk Empire, Game Of Thrones and Treme are to be made available to download to own in the UK for the first time following a deal with VOD provider Blinkbox.
The deal, set to go live today (13 August), will see Blinkbox offer consumers HBO programming to download on PC and stream on-demand via connected TVs, consoles and iPad.
While some of the shows of the 22 initally slated to be made available, such as The Wire and Sopranos, have previously been available to download via iTunes and to Sky Go subscribers, other series are being distributed digitally for the first time.
The agreement, which enables consumers to download single episodes or full series, will see content made available ahead of DVD release.
HBO’s director of international digital distribution Colin Smith said: “HBO delivers innovative, critically acclaimed programming and it is part of our ongoing strategy to make this content available to viewers in a variety of formats so they can immerse themselves in their favourite shows whenever, wherever.”
Blinkbox chief executive Michael Comish added: “This just adds to all that makes Blinkbox great: the latest movie releases available without subscription, and now acclaimed TV series before they are available anywhere else in the UK.”
Retailer Tesco acquired an 80% stake in Blinkbox in April 2011.
