Film Movement has acquired North American rights to Historias by Brazilian filmmaker Julia Murat.
The Portuguese-language drama about life in an aging community confronted by modernity screened here following its world premiere in Venice.
Film Movement president Adley Gartenstein and vp of acquisitions and distribution Rebeca Conget negotiated the deal with Pierre Menahem and Juliette Lepoutre of MPM Film.
The distributor plans a second quarter 2012 launch and will roll out on limited release day-and-date with VoD.
Historias stars Sonia Guedes and Lisa Favero and will also screen at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
”Historias is one of the most beautiful, poetic and profoundly moving films we have seen in the past years,” Conget said. “It is truly an unforgettable work of art, and Julia Murat a director to look out for in years to come. We could not be more proud to be the North American distributors.”
