Irish documentary was produced and directed by Mac Dara Ó Curraidhín
Wavelength Pictures has sold all US rights to Icarus Films for the Irish documentary A Boatload Of Wild Irishmen, a profile of legendary filmmaker Robert Flaherty.
A late autumn release is planned. Broadcast licences have also been agreed with Television Ontario in Canada and Canal+ Poland.
The deals coincide with the film’s international premiere at the Auckland International Film Festival, which runs July 14-Aug 3. Wavelength Pictures expects to confirm a number of other festival selections in the coming weeks.
A Boatload Of Wild Irishmen is a biographical profile of legendary director and documentary pioneer Robert Flaherty, whose filmography includes classics such as Nanook Of The North, Moana, Man Of Aran and Louisiana Story.
Produced and directed by Mac Dara Ó Curraidhín and written by Emmy Award winning scriptwriter Brian Winston, the film was financed by the Irish Film Board and Irish language broadcaster TG-4 in association with EM Media in the UK and the Media Programme.
