IFC Films has acquired all US rights to Donald Rice’s Cheerful Weather For the Wedding, which had its world premiere at Tribeca.
The UK period romantic comedy stars Elizabeth McGovern, Felicity Jones, Luke Treadaway and Mackenzie Crook.
Rice wrote the screenplay with Mary Henely-Magill based on Julia Strachey’s 1932 novel.
During a wedding day at a family estate, a bride-to-be’s former flame shows up to throw the day’s arrangements in disarray.
Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said: “Donald Rice has made a beautiful crafted film featuring wonderful performances from Felicity Jones, Elizabeth McGovern and Luke Treadaway. The film’s romanticism will appeal to even the stoniest heart. We look forward to bringing this film to American audiences later this year.”
Rice added: “IFC is one of the most exciting and consistent supporters of independent films in the world, and I am delighted that they have acquired Cheerful Weather For The Wedding in the US.”
The deal for the film was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with UTA and Goldcrest Films International on behalf of the filmmakers.
