The raft of international sales comes after Oscilloscope picked up North American rights to Lynne Ramsay’s Cannes competition film yesterday.
Luc Roeg’s Independent has sealed further deals on Lynne Ramsay’s Cannes competition title We Need To Talk About Kevin, starring Tilda Swinton.
The film has sold to Australia & New Zealand (Hopscotch), Italy (Bolero Films), Scandinavia (Svensk), Spain (Vertigo), Switzerland (Praesens Film), Poland (Best Film), Portugal (Pepperview), Japan (The Klockworx), Korea (T Cast), Hong Kong (Sundream) and Taiwan (Atom Cinema / Filmware).
These come in addition to pre-sold deals in the UK (Artificial Eye), Benelux (Wild Bunch), France (Diaphana), Greece (Seven Films), Israel (Shani Films) and Middle East (Shooting Stars).
New York based distributor O-scope picked up US rights to the film yesterday (May 23), with a planned winter theatrical release. Artificial Eye will release the film in the UK in the autumn, in time for the awards season.
Andrew Orr, managing director of Independent, said: “We first read this script just before Cannes 2009 and two years later, we have brought the finished film to Competition and sold it to some of the best independent distributors around the world. We are excited that the rest of the world can now start talking about Kevin.”
