Intandem Films has taken on international sales for Screwed, the new film adapted from Ronnie Thompson’s bestselling book about working as a prison officer.
Thompson also produces, and Reg Traviss (Psychosis) directs.
The cast includes James D’Arcy, Noel Clarke, Frank Harper, Jamie Foreman, Andrew Shim and Kate Magowan. The project shot mostly in a disused Victorian prison in Scarborough.
Lionsgate UK has UK rights and plans a theatrical release in June 2011. Intandem plans to launch the film at the Cannes Market.
“Ronnie Thompson is a former prison officer and his first book Screwed was a grueling real-life account of life behind bars that hit the headlines when it was published and went on to become a bestseller,” said Billy Hurman, director of Intandem. “For the first time, Ronnie exposed the underworld of corrupt prison officials, the drugs they traffic and the criminal gangs they work for. Reg Traviss has directed an equally explosive and thrilling film.”
