Japanese distributor Presidio Corporation is expanding into production with Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night, a local language sequel to the global box office smash.
Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night will mark the first of Presidio’s productions to be made for the international market. IM Global’s non-English language sales division Anthem represents international rights.
The project is a direct continuation of the events of Oren Peli and Jason Blum’s 2007 original (pictured) and takes place in Japan as a girl who visited San Diego as an exchange student unwittingly brings the evil that haunted Katie Featherston into her family’s house.
The film chronicles the young woman’s videotape recordings in their house and the shocking realisation of the supernatural force that her family must defeat.
Toshikazu Nagae is directing the project from his own screenplay and Aoi Nakamura and Noriko Aoyama star. Yasutaka Hanada is producing.
“Paranormal Activity was a huge success with Japanese audiences and we feel confident that our own Japanese continuation of the franchise can find an enthusiastic genre audience both here and overseas,” Presidio CEO and the film’s producer Yasutaka Hanada said.
“We have a very strong relationship with Stuart Ford and his IM Global team and are looking forward to them using their high profile to bring the film to the broadest possible audience”.
Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night is tentatively scheduled for delivery in December.
