Film Movement has acquired all North American rights to La Sirga, Colombian director William Vega’s Cannes Director’s Fortnight selection.
The Spanish-language film, Vega’s feature debut, will get a theatrical release in New York in the last quarter of 2012 with a limited national roll-out and day-and-date cable video on demand premiere to follow.
The film is the story of a woman who tries to forget her memories of war in a decadent hostel on the shores of a lake in the Andes.
Film Movement president Adley Gartenstein said: “William Vega is a first rate artist, and the type of promising first-time filmmaker we have been supporting and nurturing for the past ten years. We couldn’t be happier to add a fourth Colombian film to our catalogue, and to work once again with the MPM Film team.”
The deal was negotiated by Gartenstein and Pierre Menahem of MPM.
