Early during IFFR, adventurous Danish sales agent LevelK has snapped up world rights to New Zealand film Fantail, a premiere in the Bright Future section at Rotterdam.
LevelK will be working with producers Yes Please Films Ltd & Curious Film Ltd, on the project, produced by Sarah Cook.
Fantail is Curtis Vowell’s first feature. It is scripted by newcomer Sophie Henderson who also takes on the lead role
“It is our privilege to be working with one of the most promising duos in New Zealand. Curtis and Sophie have showed a strong voice with their first feature Fantail and the Bright Future section at the forthcoming Rotterdam is the perfect stage for their international debut,” commented from LevelK’s Head of Sales, Natja Rosne. “This is a team to watch for and we are happy to be there at the beginning of this exciting journey”.
“We met Natja/LevelK at the Melbourne International Film Festival Break Thru screenings in 2013 where they responded immediately to our film. LevelK’s history is one of fearless, urgent and heart-felt cinema and we can’t wait for them to find Fantail a home,” writer and lead actress Sophie Henderson enthused about the project, adding: “Curious Film and Yes Please Films are extremely proud to announce that we will be working with Tine (Klint, LevelK CEO) and the LevelK team on the sales of Fantail.”
Fantail is the the story of Tania, who thinks she’s Maori. She works the graveyard shift at Horizon to save money to take her brother Pi to Surfers. But one night a cheeky little bird ruins everything and Tania pays the ultimate price for being a hero.
