Lorber Films has acquired all US rights from Pyramide International to Annemarie Jacir’s English and Arabic SaltOf This Sea.
Suheir Hammad stars in the tale of a Brooklyn-born woman of Palestinian lineage who goes to Israel to search for her ancestral home near Jaffa.
Lorber Films co-president and CEO Richard Lorber brokered the deal with Pyramide International’s Yoann Ubermulhin.
The film will have its US theatrical premiere on August 13 in New York followed by engagements in select cities. DVD and digital distribution will follow in the first quarter of 2011.
“Salt Of This Sea is an incredibly timely, groundbreaking work and a formidable debut from a new film-making talent,” Lorber said. “That Annemarie Jacir also happens to be female and Palestinian marks this film as part of a bold new chapter in Palestinian cinema.”
Joslyn Barnes is equal partners in the film with Danny Glover and both served as co-producer. Jacques Bidou and Marianne Dumoulin served as producers.
Salt Of This Sea is a co-production between JBA Production (France), Philistine Films (Palestine), Thelma Film (Switzerland), Tarantula (Belgium), Louverture Films (US)/Clarity World Films (UK), Augustus Film (The Netherlands), Mediapro (Spain), and Television Suisse Romande (Switzerland).
