LoveFilm to be only subscription VOD service in the UK to stream eOne’s new catalogue for next five years
European subscription DVD and streaming service LoveFilm has signed a five-year content deal with distributor eOne for the UK.
From October LoveFilm will be the only subscription VOD service in the UK with access to eOne’s new catalogue for the following five years.
Global smash The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be the first amongst a batch of titles available. Future films will include Paul WS Anderson’s The Three Musketeers in 3D, The Ides Of March, directed, written and starring George Clooney and the final instalments of The Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn Part 1 and 2.
UK LoveFilm members signed up to a premium package will be able to stream all of eOne’s new and future films on the Watch Online service through the LoveFilm Player.
Simon Calver, CEO of LoveFilm said: “Content producers and distributors are increasingly choosing to make LoveFilm the home for their content in the UK. We are entirely focused on delivering the best possible experience to our members who are passionate about films and TV series.”
Alex Hamilton, director of film at Entertainment One, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to do this deal with LoveFilm, which actively incentivises us to bring the very best film content to all audiences on all platforms for years to come. I feel this is a landmark deal for both parties.”
LoveFilm, acquired by Amazon in February 2011, already has streaming deals in place with Disney, Icon, Lionsgate, MGM, Optimum and Warner Bros.
The company announced last week that it was to bolster its UK workforce by 20% in a move taken to shore up its position in the European market ahead of the likely arrival of US service Netflix.
