Magnolia Pictures and Madman have pre-bought North American and Australia/New Zealand rights respectively to Lars von Trier and Martin Scorsese collaboration The Five Obstructions: Scorsese Vs Trier and A Royal Affair.
The Five Obstructions: Scorsese Vs Trier is scheduled to wrap in 2013 and is a continuation of the theme established in Trier’s 2003 documentary The Five Obstructions, in which he challenged Jorgen Leth to remake his 1967 short film The Perfect Human five times, within increasingly restrictive parameters.
The project is a co-production between Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions and Trier and Peter Aalbaek Jensen’s Zentropa Real. Trier’s Melancholia premieres in competition on Wednesday [18].
A Royal Affair is an 18th century historical drama currently in production starring Mads Mikkelsen and Alicia Vikander. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo screenwriter Nikolaj Arcel directs the epic love triangle between a German doctor, the queen of Denmark and her deranged king. Meta Louise Foldager and Sisse Graum Jorgensen are producing for Zentropa Entertainments.
“We are so proud of working on these amazing films with our good friends from Magnolia and Madman,” TrustNordisk CEO Rikke Ennis said. “After a long and inspiring night with brainstorming on ideas for releases, we are confident that the films will be handled like little babies.”
Magnolia’s Tom Quinn and Eamonn Bowles and Madman’s Paul Wiegard and Nick Batzias negotiated the deal with Susan Wendt and Rikke Ennis for TrustNordisk.
