Magnolia and TrustNordisk have concluded a fruitful EFM, rounding out a trio of deals with a North American sale on Sundance World Cinema Grand Jury winner Happy, Happy from Norway.
Anne Sewitsky’s film follows an optimistic but neglected wife who embarks on an affair with her new neighbour.
Magnolia plans a summer theatrical release after svp Tom Quinn and vp of acquisitions Dori Begley brokered the deal with TrustNordisk, who staged an additional market screening here due to overwhelming demand from buyers.
”Happy, Happy is a hilarious and poignant blast of fresh air,” Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles said. “Anne Sewitsky is a serious talent and I can’t wait to see what she does next.”
“Happy, Happy has a perfect combination of warm-heartedness, humour and authenticity, which I believe is the reason why this film has great potential to travel internationally,” TrustNordisk CEO Rikke Ennis said. “The fact that a great company like Magnolia picks up a film like this only underlines the quality of the film”.
Earlier in the market the parties negotiated deals for Lars von Trier’s Melancholia and Morten Tyldum’s Norwegian thriller Headhunters.
