International Film Circuit has acquired US rights to Robin Hessman’s My Perestroika and has set a spring theatrical release.
Hessman also produced her feature directorial debut, which offers a portrait of the last generation of Soviet children brought up behind the Iron Curtain.
The film won the special jury award at Silverdocs 2010 and also last year earned the Full Frame FIlmmaker Award.
“My Perestroika won me over, first with its rare home movie footage of happy Soviet childhoods that so mirrored the home movies most of us have in our own closets, and then with its nuanced portrayal of how real people are living in today’s Russia, told in a concrete, personal way that makes both the past and present come vividly to life,” International Film Circuit president Wendy Lidell said.
