New Video has acquired US television, digital, VOD and home video distribution rights to Irish animated feature The Secret of Kells from Gkids, the film’s US rights holder.

New Video will release the film on VOD, digital, DVD and Blu-ray in October through its new home entertainment label, Flatiron Film Company.

A surprise nominee for Best Animated Feature at this year’s Oscars, The Secret of Kells has grossed almost $542,000 since its US theatrical release in March. Directed by Tomm Moore, the film features the voices of Brendan Gleeson, Evan McGuire and Christen Mooney.

The deal was negotiated by Mark Kashden, New Video’s vice president of acquisitions, and Gkids president Eric Beckman.
