Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired US DVD, digital and VOD rights to Sebastian Silva’s Chilean dark comedy The Maid.
The film premiered at Sundance in 2009 where it won the Dramatic World Cinema jury prize and the special jury prize for acting. O-Scope has set a June 22 release.
Catalina Saavedra stars as a sullen, passive aggressive maid in a middle class Chilean suburb who jealously guards her domain when her considerate employer fears she is overworked and hires extra cover.
O-Scope partner David Fenkel said The Maid was “the kind of creative, award-winning film that our retailers, wholesalers, VOD, and digital partners have come to expect from Oscilloscope.”
“O-scope seemed like a perfect fit to continue The Maid’s success on DVD and digital,” Silva said. “Their sensibility is centered around bringing out the most artistic, beautiful and unique ways of expressing the mood and power of a film through their packaging and design.”
