New York-based Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North American rights to Bradley Rust Gray’s second feature The Exploding Girl.
The coming-of-age drama received its world premiere at Berlin and earned Zoe Kazan the best actress award following the US premiere in Tribeca.
Kazan, who stars in the upcoming Nancy Meyers romantic comedy It’s Complicated, plays an epileptic who struggles to keep her emotions in check as love blossoms with a longtime friend.
“The Exploding Girl is a NYC film to its core,” Oscilloscope head Adam Yauch said. “This film captures the current feeling of NYC like few others are able to do, perhaps the way Fingers did in its time. Brad’s directing and Kazan’s acting are so natural it allows you to feel like you are there, watching a real story unfold.”
Oscilloscope and Gray previously collaborated on Treeless Mountain, which the distributor released last April.
