The distributor will release wide on Oct 26 the latest entry in the horror franchise from Samuel Hadida of Davis Films and Don Carmody. Lionsgate handles international sales.
Michael J Bassett directed the follow-up to the $100m global hit Silent Hill, based on the Konami video game. The new entry features returning cast members Sean Bean, Deborah Kara Unger and Radha Mitchell alongside Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss and Malcolm McDowell.
In Silent Hill: Revelation 3D (pictured) Heather Mason is on the run from strange forces with her father and learns about her true identity on the eve of her eighteenth birthday.
“Silent Hill has proven to be a powerhouse franchise,” Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg said. “The fans have greeted each incarnation, including the original Silent Hill film, with great enthusiasm and we are confident that this latest project will be a strong addition to Open Road’s 2012 slate.”
“The film is a thrill ride that improves on the original in many ways,” Hadida said. “We take all audiences, new and old, deep into the world of psychological horror that is Silent Hill, and advance the story for those familiar with the franchise. We are thrilled to have Tom and his terrific team at Open Road presenting our film to US audiences.”
Ortenberg, general counsel and evp of operations and business affairs Elliott Kleinberg and svp of acquisitions Ben Cotner brokered the deal for Open Road with the producers.
