Other 2012 releases to include Casa De Mi Padre, Nigel Cole’s All In Good Time and Vehicle 19 starring Paul Walker.
UK distributor Optimum Releasing has confirmed a slew of titles in its 2012 release slate, including Cannes market hot seller The Place Beyond The Pines, which reunites Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance [pictured] and actor Ryan Gosling. Bradley Cooper also stars in the story of a bankrobber who crosses paths with a rookie police man. Sierra/Affinity handles international sales.
Optimum is also on board for the next untitled film from Terrence Malick, a romance starring Rachel McAdams, Ben Affleck, Rachel Weisz and Javier Bardem. FilmNation handles sales.
Also on the Optimum 2012 slate are:
- Matt Piedmont’s Casa De Mi Padre starring Will Ferrell, Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna about drama on a Mexican ranch
- Roman Polanski’s Carnage, adapted from hit play God of Carnage, starring Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz, and John C Reilly
- Madonna’s Wallis Simpson project W.E. starring Abbie Cornish and Andrea Riseborough
- Stefan Ruzowitzky’s Blackbird starring Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde as siblings on the run after a robbery (sold by StudioCanal)
- David Ayer’s cop drama End of Watch starring Jake Gyllenhaal
- Matthias Hoene’s UK genre film Cockneys Vs Zombies starring Michelle Ryan and Screen Star of Tomorrow Georgia King
- Guy de Maupassant adaptation Bel Ami starring Robert Pattinson and Uma Thurman
- Nigel Cole’s All In Good Time (previously titled Rafta Rafta; an Optimum production), a comedy set in a north England Indian community
- Oren Moverman’s Rampart starring Woody Harrelson as a renegade cop.
- Sid Bennett’s The Dinosaur Project, an adventure thriller now in post production (also an Optimum production)
- Mukunda Michael Dewil’s Johannesburg-set thriller Vehicle 19 starring Paul Walker
- Lorene Scafaria’s Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World starring Keira Knightley and Steve Carell
- and A Turtle’s Tale 2, Ben Stassen’s follow-up to the animated story of a turtle (also titled Sammy’s Adventures in other markets)
No specific release dates were announced for the 2012 releases.
Releases for the rest of 2011 include Arrietty, Our Day Will Come, Sarah’s Key, The Guard (already a hit in Ireland for Element), Kill List,Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, a re-release of Ealing classic Kind Hearts and Coronets,Tyrannosaur, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, and The Awakening, an Optimum-backed period ghost story starring Rebecca Hall and Dominic West.
As of Sept 1, Optimum will take the name of its parent company, StudioCanal. The first film to go out with the new banner in the UK will be Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
