Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North American distribution rights to Yony Leyser’s documentary WilliamS Burroughs: A Man Within.

Oscilloscope will give the film, which premiered at the 2010 Slamdance Film Festival, a theatrical release this autumn followed by a DVD and digital release.The film will have a broadcast TV premiere as part of the PBS Independent Lens series during the 2010/2011 season.

Featuring never-before-seen archival footage of Burroughs and interviews with John Waters, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Gus Van Sant and David Cronenberg, the film is a portrait of the life and work of the Beat author and American icon, best known for the novel Naked Lunch.

Josh Braun and Jason Janego of Submarine negotiated both deals with David Fenkel on behalf of Oscilloscope and Lois Vossen on behalf of Independent Lens.
