Peccadillo picks up Sundance Audience Award winner and two others from first-time directors.
UK distributor Peccadillo Pictures has acquired Iranian-American Maryam Keshavarz’s Sundance feature Circumstance from Funny Balloons.
The drama about two young Iranian girls discovering their burgeoning sexuality will hit UK screens in July theatrical bow following a premiere at the distributor’s POUT film festival in June.
Other recent acquisitions by Peccadillo from female directors include Sabine Bernardi’s alternative teen romance Romeos and Rolla Selbak’s Arab-American triptych Three Veils.
Peccadillo MD Tom Abell said that the company is “proud to be nurturing up and coming female talent, an element of which is important to the company with recent successes such as Celine Sciamma’s Tomboy reflecting contemporary female film-making at its best.”
Peccadillo releases Lisa Aschan’s She Monkeys next Friday.
