IFC Films, Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions were in action as the festival approached the finale and deals continued to spill from Toronto.
Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions acquired US rights last night [17] to Everything Must Go following a deal negotiated with ICM and CAA, while IFC pounced on its third film of the festival, taking US rights to Peep World. Meanwhile a sale was understood to be imminent on Mike Mills’ Beginners.
Will Ferrell plays a married man who loses his job in Everything Must Go and must start over after his wife kicks him out and throws all hs belongings on to their front lawn. Dan Rush directed and Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey produced. Maple holds Canadian rights and IM Global handles international sales. Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions partnered last week on Toronto premiere The Conspirator.
IFC took US rights to Occupant Films’ Peep World produced by Joe Neurauter, Felipe Marino and Keith Calder. The ensemble cast features Michael C Hall, Sarah Silvermann, Rainn Wilson, Ben Schwartz, Judy Greer, Kate Mara, Ron Rifkin, Taraji P Henson, and Lesley Ann Warren.
The story takes place on the 70th birthday of a hard-nosed businessman as the youngest of his four children has just published an intimate memoir about the family. Barry Blaustein directed from Peter Himmelstein’s screenplay. Hyde Park International holds overseas rights.
IFC Films’ senior vice president of acquisitions & co-productions Arianna Bocco negotiated the deal with CAA acting on behalf of the film-makers. Earlier in Toronto, IFC acquired US rights to James Gunn’s comedy SUPER and US rights to Werner Herzog’s documentary Cave Of Forgotten Dreams.
