Disney’s locomotive is now the company’s biggest grosser internationally after reaching $700.9m on Wednesday [15].
On the worldwide box office arena it ranks as the 17th biggest release in history on $913.7m. The North American tally is $212.8m.
Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides showed little sign of slowing down in its fourth session last weekend and brought in a further $43m. It crossed the $700m threshold on Wednesday after grossing a further $5m.
Paramount/PPI ruled the roost last weekend with Kung Fu Panda 2 and DreamWorks Animation’s family title has raced to $224.5m. The sequel is set to open this weekend in a further 13 markets including France, Germany and Spain.
JJ Abrams’ sci-fi mystery Super 8 on an early $9.4m arrives in around 20 new markets this weekend including South Korea.
Universal/UPI’s The Adjustment Bureau on $55.2m opens in five including Italy and Argentina. Thriller The Debt arrives in France, action release The Eagle opens in Mexico and current US comedy release Bridesmaids debuts in Australia and New Zealand.
Warner Bros Pictures International’s superhero adaptation Green Lantern is set to open day-and-date with North America in 16 markets including the UK, Russia and Korea. The Hangover Part II stands at $233.2m.
Sony Pictures Releasing International opens the Cameron Diaz comedy Bad Teacher in the UK and has lined up action release Priest for Italy, Argentina and a handful of others.
Fox International’s X-Men: First Class stands at $134.7m and opens this weekend in Uruguay. 127 Hours opens in Japan.
Family title Mr Popper’s Penguins opens day-and-date with the US in five including Singapore and is expected to gross in the region of $500,000-$600,000. The first major release will be Germany on Jun 23, then Australia and Brazil the following weekend. The balance of international will roll out throughout the summer.
Summit International reports that Palme d’Or winner The Tree Of Life has amassed $13.5m so far and opens this weekend in Germany, Austria and Taiwan.
Rom-com Something Borrowed on $14.6m arrives in Germany, Austria, German-speaking Switzerland, Spain, South Korea, Hong Kong and New Zealand, among others.
The Jake Gyllenhaal thriller Source Code directed by Duncan Jones has grossed $64.6m so far and opens in Brazil and South Africa.
UK audiences will get the chance to see Mel Gibson in The Beaver this weekend. The drama also opens in Mexico, Argentina, Portugal and Turkey.
