Independent web TV service Babelgum and Cinetic Rights Management have announced a landmark deal for multi-territory online and mobile release for Sally Potter’s Rage
Babelgum will release the film online and via mobile as a series of episodes throughout this autumn and winter, which has been timed to coincide with the film’s traditional release in each territory.
The deal was negotiated by Cinetic Rights Management on behalf of the film-makers and Karol Martesko-Fenster, general manager and publisher of Bablegum’s film Division.
Rage focuses on the behind-the-scenes antics at a New York fashion house as daily life is shaped by a murder, a crisis, bitter conflict and secret confessions.
Simon Abkarian, Steve Buscemi, Lily Cole, Judi Dench, Eddie Izzard, Jude Law, John Leguizamo and Dianne Wiest star and the film premiered at the Berlinale.
In a statement, Potter and producers Christopher Sheppard and Andrew Fierberg said Babelgum fitted their requirements of bringing the film to new and traditional film audiences.
Fenster added that the deal “highlights the true potential of online and mobile acting as complementary platforms in an overall distribution strategy”.
