New York-based Rialto Pictures has acquired US theatrical rights to Jean-Luc Godard’s New Wave classic Breathless in its 50th anniversary year.
The new 35mm restoration, recently unveiled at Berlin, will get its first American screening at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood in April under the auspices of the TCM Classic Film Festival.
The theatrical run proper kicks off on May 28 at New York’s Film Forum before rolling out to select cities.
Francois Truffaut wrote the screenplay and Jean-Paul Belmondo plays the small-time hood who falls for Jean Seberg’s American in Paris.
Rialto acquired rights from Paris-based Pretty Pictures and also licensed theatrical rights to two other Godard films, Le Petit Soldat and Les Carabiniers.
