The director of sales of the newly minted international sales division heads to Cannes with a slate that includes Erik Matti’s action thriller On The Job.
Gabriel segues into the role after serving as director of sales at XYZ under the previous Celluloid Nightmares joint venture with Celluloid Dreams.
Prior to XYZ, Gabriel worked at Lionsgate where she served under Helen Lee-Kim as international sales coordinator. She began her career in the international department at New Line.
On The Job [pictured] is a Tagalog-language film set to receive its world premiere in Directors’ Fortnight and the market next week.
Matti co-wrote the action film with Michiko Yamamoto. The story of police officers who seek to infiltrate a corrupt assassination ring stars Piolo Pascual, Gerald Anderson and Joel Torre.
Charo Santos-Concio and Malou N Santos of Star Cinema produced with Ronald ‘Dondon’ Monteverde and Leonardo T Po of Reality Entertainment.
“We are excited to have Sarah join the XYZ family and to help spearhead the international division of the company,” said Nate Bolotin, who is a partner at XYZ along with Nick Spicer, Aram Tertzakian and Todd Brown. “Sarah’s tremendous knowledge of the international market combined with her film-savvy instincts makes her a perfect fit.”
“It’s a privilege to work with an innovative team with an immense knowledge and passion for globally minded filmmaking,” said Gabriel. “XYZ Films’ creative instincts and ability to collaborate with emerging talent are among the industry’s best, and I look forward to starting this new venture with them.”
XYZ Films and writer-director Gareth Huw Evans and Rangga Maya Barack-Evans’ PT Merantau Films are in production on The Raid 2, which reunites Evans with actor Iko Uwais. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions holds select territories and Sony Pictures Classics will release theatrically in the US as it did on the original.
XYZ Films and PT Merantau Films are in post on Killers by Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel and act as executive producers on supernatural thriller Out Of The Dark, a co-production between Colombia’s Dynamo and Spain’s Apaches financed by Participant Media.
