Joe Cornish’s action film recently received its world premiere in Austin where it won the Midnight Feature Audience Award.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) president Steve Bersch brought the film into the Sony fold and screened it for Screen Gems chief Clint Culpepper. SPWA’s Michael Helfand and Scott Shooman closed the deal with StudioCanal’s Harold van Lier.

Attack The Block pits a gang of South London inner city youths against marauding aliens. Jodie Whittaker, John Boyega, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, Luke Treadaway, Jumayn Hunter and Nick Frost star. 

The Big Talk Pictures production was produced by Nira Park and James Wilson. Matthew Justice, Tessa Ross, Jenny Borgars, Will Clarke, Olivier Courson and Edgar Wright served as executive producers

StudioCanal, Film4 and the now defunct UK Film Council co-developed and financed the project and StudioCanal is handling worldwide sales and will release in the UK through its subsidiary Optimum on May 11.
