The Oscar-nominated short films will be released in over 150 theatres in the US and Canada from Feb 11.
Short film specialists Shorts International and distributor Magnolia Pictures are teaming once again to release this year’s Oscar-nominated short films, through series The Oscar Nominated Short Films.
Three theatrical programmes will screen the animation, live action and documentary categories before the Oscar ceremony on Feb 27. This year marks the inaugural theatrical outing for the nominated documentary shorts.
Along with the theatrical run, the nominated short films will be released by Shorts International individually on iTunes from Feb 22 in the US, Canada, UK, France and Germany.
The release will also be available via cable’s Movies On Demand, distributed by leading MOD distributor, iN DEMAND LLC.
Last year the The Oscar Nominated Short Films release exceeded the million-dollar mark at the US box office, charting a 289% growth in attendance since its inception in 2005.
“The Oscar Nominated Short Films are some of this year’s best entertainment. They’re made by the world¹s stand-out, emerging filmmakers and represent the cutting edge of entertainment,” said Carter Pilcher, chief executive of Shorts International.
