Sony Pictures Classics has acquired all North American rights from El Deseo to Pedro Almodovar’s (pictured) The Skin That I Inhabit (La Piel Que Habito.)
Agustin Almodovar is producing through their company, El Deseo. Production began in Spain in August on the gothic tale about a father who avenges his daughter’s death.
The film is inspired by Thierry Jonquet’s novel Mygale and stars Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya and Marisa Paredes. GlenBasner’s FilmNation is handling international sales.
SPC and El Deseo have collaborated on nine films including Broken Embraces, Volver, Bad Education and Talk To Her.
“Almodovar and Sony Pictures Classics are family and have been for two decades,” SPC said in a statement. “We are so happy to be together again with Pedro, Agustín, Barbara, and the entire team at El Deseo on this new film which promises not only to be Almodovar at his most intriguing, but also at his very best.”
