London-based High Point Films has sold all North American rights to Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff to Strand Releasing.
Craig McCall’s documentary recently played in Cannes Classics.
Strand’s Jon Gerrans negotiated the deal with High Point Director of Sales Elisar Cabrera.
High Point MD Carey Fitzgerald said: “It’s absolutely thrilling to witness the level of genuine interest that has been shown for this exceptional documentary,” she said. “Of the several US companies clambering for North American rights, we believe that Strand Releasing demonstrates a key understanding in the film that sets them apart from the crowd, and we have every confidence they will do an excellent job.”
Gerrans added: “Whether you’re true cineaste or a casual observer, you can’t help but be inspired by Mr McCalls’ beautifully crafted documentary. This is wonderful filmmaking that will be watched for many generations to come.”
The legendary cinematographer Cardiff died last year. He worked on films including A Matter of Life and Death, Black Narcissus, The Red Shoes, Sons and Lovers, and Rambo: First Blood Part 2.
The film will screen at the London UK Film Focus later this month, and then will screen at The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival next month.
