Strand Releasing has acquired North American, Latin American and Scandinavian rights to James Franco and Travis Matthews’ erotic drama Interior. Leather Bar.

The film premiered at Sundance before screening at the Berlinale and will open either late this year or in early 2014.

Interior. Leather Bar. is inspired by 40 minutes of S&M footage that was rumoured to have been edited out of William Friedkin’s 1980 thriller Cruising, which stars Al Pacino.

Strand’s Marcus Hu and Jon Gerrans negotiated the deal with Jason Ishikawa and Andrew Herwitz of The Film Sales Company.
