Strand Releasing has acquired all US rights from Pyramide International to Michael Rowe’s Camera D’Or winner Leap Year (Ano Bisiesto).
Leap Year centres on a 25-year-old journalist and her intense sexual relationship with a man she meets after a long string of one-night stands.
Jon Gerrans of Strand Releasing negotiated the deal with Yoann Ubermulhin of Pyramide International. Strand plans to release the film in early 2011.
“It has been a long way since Eric Lagesse, chairman of Pyramide, bought Ano Bisiesto, at Ventana Sur last year, in post-production,” Ubermulhin said.
“The film was then selected at Directors’ Fortnight and won the Camera d’Or in Cannes. What a great achievement to now have Strand Releasing buying the film for the USA.”
Strand’s 2010/2011 slate includes Francois Ozon’s Hideaway, Lou Ye’s Spring Fever and Pablo Trapero’s Carancho.
