US-based sales company Submarine Entertainment has partnered with the new Dogwoof Gobal for foreign sales of acclaimed documentary Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present.
The deal was negotiated by David Koh & Josh Braun & Dan Braun of Submarine Entertainment on behalf of the Producers & Executive Producers and filmmakers along with Oli Harbottle of Dogwoof & Dogwoof Global.
Matthew Akers directed the film, with Jeff Dupre and Maro Chermayeff producing. It is a Show of Force Production in association with HBO Documentary Films.
After screening at Sundance, the film will now show at the Berlinale — Dogwoof will start foreign territory sales at Berlin’s European Film Market.
Dogwoof had previously struck a deal for UK rights to the film. HBO co-produced and has US TV rights. Films We Like has all Canadian rights, and Madman has acquired for Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa; Volga Films acquired for Russia, CIS and Baltics; GA&A previously acquired all rights in Italy; AVRO acquired Dutch TV rights; SVT acquired Swedish TV rights.
A US theatrical distribution partner will be announced shortly.
The documentary is about the controversial performance artist as she mounts her biggest show at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
Dogwoof Global, started in late 2011 by the UK distributor, has worked on films including Girl Model, Town of Runners and Sound It Out.
