Sundance Lab alumnus Jonas Carpignano directed Mediterranea, the acclaimed Italy-France-US-Germany-Qatar drama about two friends from Burkina Faso who embark on a new life in Europe after they survive a treacherous journey across the Mediterranean Sea.
The deal is timely given the saturation coverage of the current Syrian refugee crisis affecting Europe.
Mediterranea comes from a place of great personal significance to Carpignano, an Italian-American whose hails from an African American mother and Italian father from Rome.
