Sundance Selects has acquired US rights to Wim Wenders’ 3D documentary Pina, while Phase4 announced today [Mar 31] it had picked up all North American rights to Gil Cates Jr’s dark comedy Lucky.
Pina (pictured) explores the work of the late choreographer Pina Bausch and recently premiered at the Berlinale. HanWay Films is understood to have licensed rights in more than 40 territories.
Arianna Bocco, svp of acquisitions and productions for Sundance Selects, brokered the deal with HanWay CEO Tim Haslam.
Pina has grossed more than $3.9m in five weeks in Germany through NFP and is set to open in France on Apr 6 and the UK on Apr 12 ahead of its US launch on Apr 22.
Lucky will open theatrically and on VoD this summer and launches at the Dallas International Film Festival this week.
