The Film Arcade has acquired US rights to Sundance feature Unexpected.
Kris Swanberg directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Megan Mercier. The film stars How I Met Your Mother actress Cobie Smulders alongside Gail Bean and Anders Holm of Comedy Central’s Workaholics.
Unexpected tells the story of the unlikely friendship between a pregnant teacher at an inner-city Chicago high school and her most promising student, who is expecting as well.
“Unexpected was one of our favorite films at Sundance, where it was praised by both audiences and critics. Kris Swanberg is an incredibly talented film-maker and anyone who isn’t already in love with Cobie Smulders will be after seeing Kris’s film,” said The Film Arcade’s Andy Bohn.
The Film Arcade negotiated the deal with Animal Kingdom’s David Kaplan and attorney Andre Des Rochers who represented the film-makers.
The distribution company has earmarked a summer release.
