Steve James’ epic tale of former gang members in Chicago premiered at Sundance and was recently named best documentary in the Miami International Film Festival.
The film charts the efforts by ex-gang members to intervene in violent situations and will open theatrically this summer. It marks James’ sixth film produced with Kartemquin Films of Chicago alongside new collaborator Rise Films of London.
The Interrupters will be broadcast on PBS Frontline and released digitally and on DVD through PBS Distribution in 2012.
Amy Letourneau of PBS Distribution brokered the deal with Ryan Krivoshey of the Cinema Guild, and executive producer Teddy Leifer, of Rise Films.
