UK releases: Fast & Furious 6 moved forward to May 17; Secret Service set for Nov 14, 2014

Fast & Furious 6 will be out on May 17 in the UK after Universal moved it forward one week, according to the latest UK release calendar from Rentrak.

Fast Five sped to a series high of $28.3m (£18.5m) in 2011 and with all of the cast and the director (Justin Lin) returning, expect the sixth to do similar business. Perhaps crucially, Fast & Furious 6 won’t be going up against The Hangover Part III (now out a day earlier on May 23) yet will face another Warner Bros release, The Great Gatsby.

Universal has also dated Alex Gibney’s We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks for July 12.

As they did in the US, Fox have set an early date of Nov 14, 2014 for Secret Service, directed by Matthew Vaughn and based on Mark Millar’s comic book.

Fox has also moved forward Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters to Aug 7. The first Percy Jackson made $11.6m (£7.6m) in 2010.

The distributor has also set The Food Guide to Love for June 7.

Warner Bros has dated Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine for Sept 20. Allen’s previous film To Rome with Love made $994,000 (£651,600) last year, while Midnight in Paris remains the director’s best-ever UK result at $4.3m (£2.8m).

The distributor has also moved back Peter Segal’s Grudge Match, starring Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone as a pair of aging boxing rivals, to Jan 17, 2014.

Disney will release Sundance 2012 hit The Words, starring Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana, on April 19.

Metrodome has pushed back Everybody has a Plan to May 24, while Entertainment has moved Carlo Carlei’s take on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet forward to July 26. Entertainment has also dated Stand Up Guys for June 28 and Chasing Mavericks for July 5.

Dogwoof has dated a couple of its upcoming slate: The Act of Killing and Sundance 2013 title Blackfish will be released on June 28 and July 26, respectively.
