The British Guide to Showing Off picked up by Verve for UK
UK indie Verve has picked up Jes Benstock’s TheBritish Guide to Showing Off – the Film London Microwave backed documentary exploring British artist Andrew Logan and his Alternative Miss World Show.
The film will receive its world premiere next month, screening in the Documentary Competition at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (1-9 July).
Featuring Brian Eno, Zandra Rhodes, Richard O’Brien and Grayson Perry, The British Guide To Showing Off was filmed over 5 years, charting the mounting of the 2009 Show.
Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London said: “This is brilliant news for the film-makers and their highly original and insightful documentary. In Verve we’ve found a wonderful distributor to guide this film to its audience. It is also hugely encouraging and reassuring that we are seeing another Microwave feature proving itself in the commercial marketplace.
“We have two other films currently in post and are aiming to greenlight another six later this year so I very much hope we can continue to build on our success to date. Film London has been a long time supporter of director Jes Benstock, having previously funded him through Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network (FLAMIN) and our shorts scheme. It is very gratifying to see him enjoying such success with his first feature and to see an artist film-maker finding success through Microwave.”
Colin Burch, Managing Director of Verve Picturessaid: “The British Guide to Showing Off is documentary as pure entertainment. A great story inventively told with humour and warmth. We look forward to working with Jes and Dorigen on the UK release.”
