Verve to release Sally El Hosaini’s Sundance and Berlin drama in the UK this autumn.
Verve Pictures has acquired UK rights to Sally El Hosaini’s drama My Brother The Devil, with a release date set for autumn 2012.
Writer-director Sally El Hosaini’s coming-of-age story about two young British Arab brothers growing up on the streets of London picked up the Best European Film award from Europa Cinemas in Berlin and scored a World Cinema cinematography award at Sundance.
Newcomers James Floyd and Fady Elsayed star alongside Said Taghmaoui.
Verve struck the deal with producers Gayle Griffiths of Wild Horses Film Company and Rooks Nest Entertainment’s Julia Godzinskaya and Michael Sackler.
Verve has also picked up writer-director Tom Geen’s second feature Couple In A Hole, which is due to shoot in the UK and Greece in late 2012.
Zorana Piggott produces Couple In A Hole, which is described as an “unconventional and thought-provoking drama.”
Geens and Piggott recently collaborated on Cinema Extreme short You’re The Stranger Here.
Colin Burch of Verve Pictures commented: “Verve Pictures have a proven track record of working with new filmmakers, and a significant percentage of our releases are from first time feature directors. My Brother The Devil will be an exciting and rewarding film to bring to audiences and I have no doubt that it will find a place of distinction. Couple In A Hole is inventive cinema from a film maker with a unique vision.
