Well Go USA Entertainment announced on Friday [May 31] it has picked up all North American rights in Cannes to Wing-cheong Law’s Iceman and separately closed a deal to distribute Ip Man: The Final Fight.
Iceman is a remake of the 1989 Yuen Biao movie The Iceman Cometh and stars Donnie Yen as a chief commander of the Imperial Guard in Ming Dynasty China who returns to life in modern China only to be pursued by a rival. The China 3D film will open in autumn.
Ip Man: The Final Fight takes place in post-war Hong Kong as the legendary Wing Chun grandmaster takes on the Triads. It will open on ultra VoD on Aug 20 and arrive in theatres on Sept 20.
“We were excited by the amount of fabulous Asian films we saw in Cannes this year,“ said Well Go USA president Doris Pfardrescher. “Iceman and Ip Man: The Final Fight are perfect additions to the Well Go slate for Fall.”
Well Go brokered the deals with Freddie Ho at China 3D Film for Iceman and May Yip at Emperor Motion Pictures for Ip Man: The Final Fight.
